Building a Safer Online World: Tennessee Symposium For Online Health And Safety
Tennessee Symposium on Online Health & Safety
January 27 | Lipscomb University, Nashville, TN
How do we protect the anxious generation?
That question guided every decision behind the Tennessee Symposium on Online Health & Safety—an event the Patton Foundation proudly supported in its mission to spark bold, necessary conversations around mental health, screen time, and digital safety for teens.
This wasn’t just another panel discussion. It was a gathering of families, educators, and change makers—all committed to helping the next generation thrive in a digital world.
A Mission-Driven Evening
Held at Lipscomb University’s Allen Arena, the symposium welcomed over 650 attendees—from concerned parents and teens to school leaders and policy advocates. The energy in the room was focused and hopeful: a shared desire to face a growing crisis head-on, together.
Featured speakers included:
Jason Frost, co-founder of Wired Human, who offered a compelling look into the online habits shaping teen mental health—and how we can reclaim real-world connection.
Nicki Reisberg, mental health counselor and host of the Scrolling 2 Death podcast, who offered deeply personal and practical insights on how screen addiction impacts our brains, our relationships, and our self-worth.
In addition to the in-person event, every attendee received exclusive access to a virtual webinar with Jonathan Haidt, author of The Anxious Generation, expanding the conversation into February.
More Than a Talk—A Movement
This event embodied everything the Patton Foundation stands for:
Empowering Families: Through practical strategies and open dialogue, the symposium gave parents the tools they need to lead with confidence.
Equipping Communities: School leaders walked away with ideas for policy changes and educational programming that promote healthier digital habits.
Collaborative Execution: From breakout sessions to stage production, a team of organizers, creatives, and community sponsors worked seamlessly to bring the event to life.
And it didn’t end at the arena doors. The resources shared, the conversations sparked, and the networks formed are already inspiring new initiatives across Tennessee.

It all begins with an idea.
It all begins with an idea. Maybe you want to launch a business. Maybe you want to turn a hobby into something more. Or maybe you have a creative project to share with the world. Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.
Don’t worry about sounding professional. Sound like you. There are over 1.5 billion websites out there, but your story is what’s going to separate this one from the rest. If you read the words back and don’t hear your own voice in your head, that’s a good sign you still have more work to do.
Be clear, be confident and don’t overthink it. The beauty of your story is that it’s going to continue to evolve and your site can evolve with it. Your goal should be to make it feel right for right now. Later will take care of itself. It always does.
